5 YEARS AGO (2019): Hannah Lindner, a former member of the 100 Mile House Curling Club, represented the province of British Columbia at the U18 Curling Championships as part of Team Buchy - which represented the Kimberley Curling Club. Despite her being a resident of Fort St. John, Lindner had lived in 100 Mile and curled with the local club for seven years. Teachers at the 100 Mile curling club had praised her. This was Lindner’s seventh provincial tournament. She had plans to move to Vancouver.

10 YEAR AGO (2014): A public poetry contest by the South Cariboo Writers Guild was held starting on March 19. Only residents of the South Cariboo region were eligible to enter the contest. The contest’s theme was called Spring Time and the content had to be family friendly. Entries were limited to less than four hundred words and had to be original. However, no genre or style was excluded and creative freedom was encouraged. Winners would have had their poetry published in the 100 Mile Free Press as well as receive a gift certificate from Nuthatch Books.

25 YEARS AGO (1999): Eight members of the North/South Canim Lake Volunteer Fire Department collected three full truckloads of bottles during a three-hour bottle drive for Amanda Hammond. Hammond had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. The firefighters managed to collect around $310 in donations, bottles and cans. Ron Lister, the fire chief at the time, thanked the Canim Lake store for supplying the boxes and bags for the bottle drive.

50 YEARS AGO (1974): The Cariboo Regional District, in a 12-10 vote, squashed a proposal to put the library proposal for the Cariboo region to join the Thompson-Nicola library system to a vote. This meant that several library services were going to have their funding dry up: first, the popular Bookmobile service would be discontinued at the end of March. Meanwhile, other services were going to be discontinued in March of 1975. This was the second year the district voted down a referendum on such a proposal.
