The quilt that was originally started by Deka Ladies Auxiliary Quilters was recently donated to the Log Cabin Quilters, and is displayed here by Shelley Theriault (L) and Jean Dall. (Photo submitted)

The Deka Ladies Auxiliary Quilters started on a quilt back in 2019 but when the ladies were banned from their firehall, three of their members—Irene Jones, Shelley Theriault and Lorna Wiebe - set about finishing it. The ladies recently donated it to the Log Cabin Quilters’ (LCQ) Comfort programme, much to the delight of the LCQ.

The Bridge Lake Fair Association has announced that this year’s LCQ Challenge, to be entered in Section L, Class #32, is “Nature.” Your single quilt entry may be of any shape but no larger than 144” in perimeter. This People’s Choice contest provides no points, but the winner will receive a $50 gift certificate.

As of noon today, March 28, Category 2 and 3 fires are banned in the Cariboo Fire Centre (CFC) until November 1. Note that this includes a ban on fireworks and sky lanterns. Campfires a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller are not affected by this ban. Penalties for violating the ban are high!

Information from CFC advises that they already have over half of their firefighters returning, covering every one of their zones, and are currently stepping up training.

Most residents know to always keep an eye out for smoke, especially if we experience lightning—and call it in. Report any burning violation or wildfire to CFC 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.

For up-to-date wildfire information including wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air quality bulletins, visit www.bcwildfire.ca or call 1-888 3-FOREST.

IHC is looking for volunteers in many areas but is particularly in need of one announcer to cover all five series events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and, similarly, one points keeper for all five events. They also need a couple of concession helpers from perhaps 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Food Safe is a bonus but not necessary.

They can always use extra hands to set up obstacles, open gates, take pictures, help with fundraising, or even pick up poop.

You can offer your services and/or follow them on their Facebook page.

Greetings

Very many congratulations, complete with caviar, go to Doreen & Jim Wishart on their 65th wedding anniversary today; and to Isabelle & Les Poirier on their 65th, April 3. And for Celia & Joe Visschers’ 55th on April 3.
