In Grade 11, you start to realize all the preparations you need to make for Grade 12 and upcoming graduation.

It’s like the end of your childhood and the beginning of your adulthood.

There’s a feeling of sadness but also the excitement of now going out into the world to possibly live alone for the first time. It is the first time you’re really going to be doing everything by yourself for yourself.

Grade 11 is when you figure out what you might want to be when you graduate. You must take specific classes to have a certain GPA to get into colleges/universities, which can be stressful for many. You also have to have enough credits to graduate. I feel the pressure from friends who already know what they want to become and where they’re going to go.

Thoughts start to come into your head about making the right choice, college, university, or a trade? Then there’s the cost of living!

Being from a small town, the selection of colleges and universities is farther away from us, which contributes to the struggles with how you’re going to be able to afford to live wherever you need to go for your education. How am I going to get the money to afford the cost of living such as rent, food and transportation?

Part of me can’t wait to move out of town to go to school, however, a big part of me is going to miss leaving the place I grew up with so many memories.

You have all these questions starting to build up on you like bricks on your shoulders. Sometimes it feels that you must go to college or university to get a high-paying job to be able to afford everyday items.

However, there are many parts of graduating that can be exciting and fun! Prom is one that I’m excited for! Getting to dress up and celebrate with friends and celebrate this huge accomplishment with family!

I’m looking forward to achieving my future goals in college by taking courses that align with my interests. Writing has always been an interest to me and I’d like to further my education in it and possibly become a journalist.

It’s a huge step in our lives that I’m both excited and nervous for.
