The Cariboo Regional District plans to conduct repairs on the Horse Lake Water System on Wednesday, May 1.

Repairs will be made to a damaged blow-off section along Mulligan Drive east of Granberg Road. During the repairs, scheduled for between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., the water supply will be turned off to roughly two dozen properties in the area.

A boil water notice will also be put into effect on May 1, as required by the Drinking Water Act. Residents will be advised to boil their water until two successive water samples are returned with acceptable results. The CRD will notify residents when the notice is lifted.

Under a boil water notice the CRD recommends all water taken from the system is boiled for one minute before drinking, cooking, washing dishes, watering animals or brushing teeth with it. They also recommend residents use hand sanitiser after washing their hands with the water during the advisory.

After the repairs are completed system-wide flushing will take place to remove any built-up sediments in the pipes until Friday, May 3. The CRD said residents who use the Horse Lake Water System may see higher levels of sediment in their water supply during this process. Those who experience this are advised to allow their taps to run until the water runs clear again.

Anyone with questions or concerns about this process can contact the CRD’s Environmental Services Department at either 1-800-665-1636 or 250-392-3351, or by email to mailbox@cariboord.ca.
